Dieter Ammann and Band, Zofingen, Switzerland


Dieter Ammann (born 1962) is a Swiss musician (guitarrist, trumpet player, keyboarder) and composer engaged in Jazz and classical music. Much of his work is influenced by improvisation, it starts with a note, an idea and moves on intuitively. He studied at the music academy in Lucerne and Basel and spent some time at the Swiss Jazz School in Berne. During his career he played with people such as Eddie Harris, Peter Brötzmann and also with Udo Lindenberg. Today he is a professor at the music academy in Lucerne. Dieter Ammann will appear with a Jazz group.

Eliana Burki and iAlpinisti, Solothurn, Switzerland


Eliana Burki (born 1983) was never fond of piano-playing, that her mother wanted her to perform. At the age of 6 she discovered the alphorn, which became her favourite instrument since. She played it at traditional musical meetings and was often the only woman among men, but decided then not to appear in traditional Swiss clothes anymore. She started to use the alphorn in funk, pop- and Jazz-songs. Eliana Burki has become since a worldwide-known Swiss musician, that plays her alphorn with her band I Alpinisti throughout the world. Eliana Burki is also engaged in the musical therapy for children with mucoviszidosis at the Children’s Clinic in Davos.Her latest CD is called “Travellin root” (2011).

George Gruntz, Basel, and Franco Ambrosetti, Lugano, Switzerland


George Gruntz (born 1932) is a Swiss pianist-composer-arranger, who is also called “Europe’s godfather of Jazz orchestras” (Down Beat Magazine, Chicago). In the sixties he toured as a pianist with people such as Phil Woods, Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker, Rahsaan Roland Kirk and many others. From 1972 to 1994 he was the musical director of the Berlin Jazz Festival. 1971 he founded the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band, one of the most famous and wellknown Big Bands of the world. Gruntz has also written Jazz Opera’s such as the “World Jazz Opera” 1973 commissioned by the Opéra of Paris, “Cosmopolitan Greetings” (with Allen Ginsberg, Robert Wilson and Rolf Liebermann) 1988 and “The Magic of Flute” (with Peter O. Chotjewitz), 2003. His latest CD is “Matterhorn matters” 2010.


Franco Ambrosetti (born 1941) from Lugano is a trumpet player and flugelhornist, who is founding member of the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band. Franco, son of Flavio Ambrosetti, an alto-saxophonist, has played among others with John Scofield, Steve Coleman, Ron Carter and Daniel Humair. He also has a Masters degree in economics from the university of Basel.

Max Lässer und das Ueberlandorchester, Zürich, Switzerland

Max Lässer (born 1950) is a Swiss guitarist, composer and bandleader. In his first years he played with Swiss musicians such as Toni Vescoli, Hardy Hepp and Walter Lietha. Later he was working with Andreas Vollenweider, the world famous harp player, in “Andreas Vollenweider and friends”, with Stephan Eicher (“Engelberg”) and many others. Lässer was always engaged and fond of Swiss traditional dance music. Many of this CD’s are purely instrumental (“Max Lässer’s Ark”). 2001 appeared the album “Ueberland”, which marked the revival of this interest in old Swiss dances. Today Max Lässer combines Swiss traditional music with lyric world music. In 2011 appeared Max Lässer and the Ueberland Orchestra’s “Iigschneit”.

The Bajass Clique, Basel, Switzerland


The Bajass Clique is a traditional Basel carneval clique/ group founded in 1966. They play the piccolo flute. Their marching music is combined with jazz and pop influence today. Their outfit is very special and typical for their appearance.
